You can attach documents to a chat and ask questions about them: summarize a contract, find a clause, compare two versions, or pull figures from a spreadsheet.
Attach a file
- In a chat, select the paperclip under the message box.
- Choose how the AI should read the file:
- Upload for File Search: the file is indexed so the AI can search it and cite the page it used. Best for long documents and for several files at once.
- Upload as Text: the whole file is given to the AI as text. Best for a short document you want read in full.
- Pick the file, then type your question.
You can also add documents to an assistant you create, and owners and admins can add documents to the Firm Knowledge Base assistant. See Using assistants.
File types and limits
| File types | PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), plain text, Markdown and CSV. Older .doc and .xls files aren’t supported; save them in the newer format first. |
| Size | Up to 25 MB per file. |
| How many | Up to 10 files and 100 MB in total per upload. |
Where your files go
Uploaded files are stored in your firm’s own workspace. Document search is computed on our own server with an open-source model, so files are not sent to an outside service to be indexed. When you ask about a document, the relevant excerpts (or, for Upload as Text, the whole text) go to the AI model you are using, as part of your question.
Files are kept until someone deletes them or your firm’s retention setting removes files that no remaining chat or assistant uses.
Don’t upload patient health information. Zrico doesn’t offer a HIPAA business associate agreement.
