An assistant is an AI model with instructions for one kind of work, so you don’t have to explain the format every time. Your firm has fifteen ready-made assistants, shared with everyone, and you can create your own.
Every answer is a draft for professional review. Assistants can be wrong, so check the output before anyone relies on it.
The ready-made assistants
| Group | Assistants |
|---|---|
| Law | Contract Review · Legal Memo Drafter · Engagement Letter (Legal) · Client Email Polisher · Deposition & Document Summarizer · Demand Letter · Discovery Requests & Responses · Client Intake Summary |
| Accounting | Tax Research Memo · Client Letter (IRS Notices) · Financial Statement Reviewer · Engagement Letter (Accounting) · Tax Season Client Checklist |
| General | Meeting Notes to Action Items · Firm Knowledge Base |
They run on Claude Sonnet and are available to everyone at your firm. Which groups your team sees follows your firm’s type: a law firm sees Law and General, an accounting firm sees Accounting and General, and a firm that does both sees all three. The owner can change the type in Settings.
Start a chat with an assistant
- Start a new chat. The new-chat screen lists your firm’s assistants by group.
- Open the menu at the top left and choose an assistant. Each one shows a few example requests to start from.
- Type your request, and attach documents if the work needs them; see Uploading documents.
To ask Claude without an assistant, just type on the new-chat screen.
Firm Knowledge Base answers from documents your firm uploads, with sources. Owners and admins add those documents in the assistant’s settings.
Create your own assistant
Build assistants for your firm’s recurring work, such as client letters in your style or answers from your policies. Nothing is trained: an assistant is the model plus your instructions and documents.
- In the workspace’s left menu, select Create an assistant.
- Under Start from, pick a template: Draft client letters in our style, Answer questions from our policies, Summarize documents, Check documents against our checklist, Research with web sources (only if your firm has web search on), or Start from scratch.
- Give it a Name (what colleagues see in the menu) and edit What should it do? in plain English. The firm’s ground rules are added for you.
- Optionally add Documents it should know: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text or CSV, up to 10 files of 25 MB each. The assistant searches them and cites them.
- Choose the Model. Claude Sonnet is the default; Claude Opus is best for hard work, and Claude Haiku is fastest. If your firm has turned on GPT or Gemini, those appear too.
- Under Who can use it, choose Only me or Everyone at the firm (colleagues can use it; only you can change it).
- Select Create assistant.
Who can create assistants
Owners and admins can always create assistants. The owner decides whether everyone can: in the dashboard, go to Settings > Assistants > Who can create assistants and choose Owners and admins (the default) or Everyone. People may need to reload the workspace after a change.
